Coffee Candle

I love good smelling, pretty candles.   I have taught myself to make them. I've been fooling with candle making since I was a teenager.    I forgot I had put away the materials to make a coffee scented candle in my Hoosier cupboard.   I got that stuff out and finished it finally.

I purchased a very pretty giant coffee mug with a cute saying along with an ornate saucer to match at a Thrift store.   I had me some coffee beans.  It is roasted espresso scented wax I got from Food City mingled with some bees wax pastilles.
I melted my wax down in an old sauce pan.
While that is melting I cut me a length of wicking.  I dip it in the wax and lay it out on a paper towel to cool and harden.   I use a bamboo skewer to hold the wick in place.   I attach a metal wick tab to the end and crimp it shut.  Using my hot glue gun I secure the metal wick tab and wick to the bottom of the cup.
I wrap the end of the wick around the skewer and leave some extra wrapped around it.

I then pour the wax into the container in this case the cup.
I let it firm up over several hours and come back and warm the wax again and pour a second time.  This is because the wax shrinks around the wick creating a cone shaped depression.   I usually end up pouring at least three times to fill this in level.

I poured a third time and sprinkled coffee beans in the wax and allowed it to harden.   It turned out great.   I'll post a photo of the finished product.
I will also make a tutorial next time I do any candle making.  It is pretty simple.

Melted wax for my third pour.  I am using the Keep Warm Zone on my stove top to keep it liquid til I am ready for it.

Above: clever saying on the cup.. I love coffee!

Above:  Keep warm zone controls on my stove.  I use it for lots of things, but candle making is a recent addition.   It had not occurred to me before now to try it for this.
