Deer Gap Falls Directions

2nd drop  of Deer Gap Falls
Deer Gap is a multi level waterfall in Jamestown, TN
with a total height of about 120 ft.

To reach it.... From Knoxville Turn onto Highway 127 North in Crossville.
Travel north on Hwy 127 through Clarkrange.
You will pass the Highland Manor Winery on your right.
Shortly after that you will see the Jordan Motel on the left of the divided
highway. Turn left and cross Hwy 127 onto the road behind the Jordan
Motel. I think it is signed "Deer Gap Road". Either park to one side along the highway near the Jordan Motel OR park out of the way behind the Jordan Motel.

This is private property but they tolerate visitors on foot.
The road goes along side The Jordan Motel and is gated.
It is a residential area, so be courteous and don't do anything to mess up access to this place.
You will hike about 3/4 mile back the gravel road. You will cross a stream which flows  across the road. This is the stream coming out of Jordan Lake that forms the falls.
Cross the creek and the trail goes slightly uphill and bears left toward a cliff. There is an area at the top with places to tie horses and picnic tables. A spectacular overlook of Buffalo Cove is here.

At the picnic area follow the trail straight across that heads down.
From here you will go left and down through a fat mans squeeze
in the rocks.
Go downward and the trail briefly goes right then swings back left.
You will be within earshot of the falls almost at once.
Work your way along the bank with the falls on your left.

You can walk behind the falls.
You can go downstream on this side to get a photo of two of the drops.. the 2nd and 3rd.
In order to see the very first drop of the falls it is necessary to drop down off the road near the place where you first crossed the stream.
It is about 10-15 ft high but worth it if you're careful and really want to see all parts of it.
In order to see the upper levels standing facing the main drop.. the part you can go behind...
Work your way across to the jumble of boulders on the right of the falls.
We just experimented climbing around in the boulders until we came out at a ledge. We climbed the ledge and went out on it to get good , unobstructed photos of the 2nd drop.

Go at your own risk. Be careful. Remember that Deer Gap Falls
often dries up to a trickle in Summer.
If we have had frequent or heavy rains it should be worth the visit.

Round trip mileage approx. 2 miles.
