Kügler Haus Kitchen Remodel
Before
We have lived in this house with this kitchen 24 years. It was about five years old when we bought it making the kitchen 29 years old. I put A LOT of use on my kitchen. We do a lot of living in this house period. We believe in comfort, family, and my more relaxed personality doesn't believe things have to be PERFECT. The results of all this is a worn out set of cabinets that need replacing. Baking cookies and cakes and such with the grandkids has splatters of stuff down the fronts of cabinets. I clean, but I don't spend all my time cleaning. My kids and grandkids are only going to be little once. I don't sweat the small stuff. Cabinets of golden oak are grimy and need replacing.... not refurbishing. Hunter green formica counter tops need replacing... not just a refinish. My glass top stove is still working well, but looks rough. Dishwasher isn't working so well these days. The kitchen was professionally wallpapered and this is the ORIGINAL. We are not going to remove it, but paint over it as it is perfectly in tact. Plus I removed original wall paper from my bathroom and it was stuck so well it pulled paper off the dry wall!! Not making that mistake again. We're going with Homestead Cameo White semi gloss. Same as in the living room. It is a historic preservation color in the Valspar line. Comes from The Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Virginia. The original painted part is a matte finish and has been a nightmare to try to clean up if it gets anything on it. The floor Rick White installed for us is staying as we love it.
Below are some BEFORE photos.
During
The photos below are the start of the DURING phase. Total upheaval. The boxes are the new hickory cabinets which will begin to be installed on Monday.
This has me so melted down with all turmoil. Today I tried to help scrape the kitchen floor and clean it in the areas where all the cabinets were removed. We found papers behind the cabinets that were from when the Cutshaw's built this house. Papers for their little boys to joy Tiger Cubs! Recipes. Refrigerator magnets. I was sitting there trying to chisel grout with a putty knife and a hammer.
I got into a rhythm and when I realized what it sounded like I lost it laughing. I grayed out I laughed so hard and so long.
