After Photos

Before Photo of the same area granite counters and hickory cabinets.  All our storage problems are solved!  Not one thing that makes me dread putting pots and pans away anymore. Part of that came from the new cabinets. Part of that solution came from getting rid of several big things I never used anymore.  New stove as I had worn mine slap out.  I cook A LOT and we don't eat out too often.  I am a good cook and baker.  New dish washer so that I am now using only 1 dishwasher soap pod to clean them.  It is quiet and works the first try!

The only thing left to do is apply the border around the ceiling.  It is farm scenes which is me and Kenny up and down.  We are not townies. We are country.   Kenny already installed the new range hood and light.  He wanted a new microwave overhead, but I put the kibosh on that. The old one still works fine where it is. No need to reinvent the wheel and thus complicate my life and pocket book!     New sink with a single hole faucet.  It works great.  Looks nice. Double lazy susans one on either side of the kitchen. One for pots and pans. One for foods.  I made myself clean out the spice cabinet and organize it.  No more having five boxes of salt, three containers of garlic powder, etc.  All accounted for and no duplicates.

After Photo of the bar and the cabinetry in the cooking part of the kitchen.

above: new granit counter tops and no more green formica.  No more golden oak 1990s Home Depot cabinetry. It was 30 years old!  New custom hickory cabinets. New art work.

Above: looking toward the mantel piece.   Everything is spit and polished now.

Above: Hoosier cupboard is the same.   Believe it or not I cleaned it out and got an entire clothes basket of stuff to donate.  More room for storage now and not having to pile stuff on top of it anymore.   I keep my flour in the bin and use it all the time.

Above: Same dining table but new curtains. A little pop of color.

Above: laundry closet and cleaning supplies... doors painted and new handles applied by Kenny.
No more wallpaper. Clean semi gloss paint Homestead Cameo White a historic preservation color from Valspar.  The Homestead is a resort in Hot Springs, Virginia in Highland County.

 Before

We  have lived in this house with this kitchen 24 years.  It was about five years old when we bought it making the kitchen 29 years old.   I put A LOT of use on my kitchen.  We do a lot of living in this house period.  We believe in comfort, family, and my more relaxed personality doesn't believe things have to be PERFECT.    The results of all this is a worn out set of cabinets that need replacing.  Baking cookies and cakes and such with the grandkids has splatters of stuff down the fronts of cabinets.  I clean, but I don't spend all my time cleaning.  My kids and grandkids are only going to be little once.  I don't sweat the small stuff.   Cabinets of golden oak are grimy and need replacing.... not refurbishing.  Hunter green formica counter tops need replacing... not just a refinish.  My glass top stove is still working well, but looks rough.  Dishwasher isn't working so well these days.    The kitchen was professionally wallpapered and this is the ORIGINAL.   We are not going to remove it, but paint over it as it is perfectly in tact. Plus I removed original wall paper from my bathroom and it was stuck so well it pulled paper off the dry wall!! Not making that mistake again. We're going with Homestead Cameo White semi gloss.  Same as in the living room.  It is a historic preservation color in the Valspar line.  Comes from The Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Virginia.   The original painted part is a matte finish and has been a nightmare to try to clean up if it gets anything on it.  The floor Rick White installed for us is staying as we love it.

Below are some BEFORE photos.

During

The photos below are the start of the DURING phase.   Total upheaval.  The boxes are the new hickory cabinets which will begin to be installed on Monday.

This has me so melted down with all turmoil. Today I tried to help scrape the kitchen floor and clean it in the areas where all the cabinets were removed.  We found papers behind the cabinets that were from when the Cutshaw's built this house. Papers for their little boys to joy Tiger Cubs!  Recipes.  Refrigerator magnets.  I was sitting there trying to chisel grout with a putty knife and a hammer.

I got into a rhythm and when I realized what it sounded like I lost it laughing.  I grayed out I laughed so hard and so long.
