Directions to Land Features Out Darrow Ridge Road

Directions to Land Features Out Darrow Ridge Road

First you have to find Darrow Ridge Road.
Directions to it are from the intersection of Hwy 127 and SR 52 in Jamestown, TN.

From the junction of Hwy 127 and SR 52 in Jamestown drive North on Hwy 127 for  1.5 miles and turn right onto SR 154 (Pickett Parkway) Travel east on Hwy 154 for five miles
and turn RIGHT onto Darrow Ridge Road.  It is signed for Timber Ridge Horse Camp.
If you arrive at Beatty's Wildwood Grocery you have missed it.

Please note that while Darrow Ridge Road starts off as a paved road it deteriorates to a rutted, muddy mess, and would be best handled with a four wheel drive, high clearance vehicle or on horseback.     The parts that are not muddy during drier times can still cause you problems
because the sand can be hard to gain traction in when it is very deep, dry and loose.
The tread of the road changes several times from beginning to end.  It  dead ends at Christian Cemetery.

The road is paved and in good shape as far as Timber Ridge Campground.
The features are listed in order as you encounter the trails for them driving the road to its end.

Land Form #1 --Wildcat Den Arch
Drive 2 miles out Darrow Ridge Road and almost directly across from Timber Ridge Campground find a place to park and walk.   It is a short 1/2mile hike out to Wildcat Den on a trail and the trail is signed. Waypoint for the arch  It is to the left of Darrow Ridge Road as are all the land features.

Land Form #2-Hippy Cave Span
From the start of Darrow Ridge Road drive 3.4 miles out or 1.4 miles past Wildcat Den
Watch for a sign and the trailhead on your left.  Hippy Cave Span is about 0.20 miles one way hike on a trail.  Waypoint and info for Hippy Cave

Land Form #3--Fiddler's Arch
From the start of Darrow Ridge Road drive 4 miles out or 0.6 miles past the trail for Hippy Cave.  There is no sign on the left so it is best to use a Tomtom navigation system or GPS unit.
There is a trail to the arch although unsigned and unmaintained.  You may see a sign on a tree
just prior to arriving at the arch.   The hike is 0.2 miles one way and is easy.
Pull off the road and park in a clearing on the left.  You will walk straight ahead to the north following a faith path through weeds.   You will come to another dirt track paralleling the main road in about twenty feet.   Cross this and continue straight ahead.   You will cross rocky places just before coming to the point where the sign is and the trail starts downward to the arch.
Waypoint for Fiddler's Arch

Land Form #4-Christian Tunnel
From the start of Darrow Ridge Road drive 8 miles or 3.56 miles past Fiddler's Arch
to the dead end. Stay on the main road as there are several places out here to turn left or right.
You will see Christian Cemetery on your left at the dead end.  The hike to Christian Tunnel is 100% off trail and unsigned, but short. It is only 0.30 miles one way.   Do not attempt this unless you are an experienced off trail hiker.   There are few landmarks here to help you
navigate and everything looks the same.   Put a waypoint on your vehicle and name it CAR.
and once you are safely back delete the waypoint for CAR.    This will help you back track to your start if you become disoriented.
walk to the back of the cemetery.  Bear left into the the woods heading west.
You will  walk through fairly open woods up and down a few gentle rises and drops.
When you come to the second downward drainage you will want to follow it down to the tunnel.
The back door or opening of the tunnel will be on your right.  Go on down to the front opening
which is at the end of the bluff.   It is easy to climb in and look around and go through.
Take along a light or two.  It is an interesting spot for sure and covered in leisegang rings.  Return the way you came.  It might be good to take along some survey tape in bright neon colors and put it out marking your way. If you do.. take it out with you as you go.
