Boss Goan Whup You

July 2023

Storytime with Magic Momma. This true story took place about a week to 10 days ago. Mia came out to my kitchen where I was cleaning up the breakfast dishes and was very somber and concerned. She looked at me and said something I could not really understand. At least I thought I did not hear her correctly. I asked her to repeat herself. She said it again and what came out sounded like a very worried "Boss goan whup me!" I asked Gabe if he could interpret what she was saying? He answered "Yes. Boss goan whup me." She had been scratching him or doing something ugly to him and he had tried to get her to quit. She wasn't listening. So he told her a recent phrase that had been VERY effective. "Boss goan whup you!" He laughed and laughed when he told me because it worked! Lydia came home from work that afternoon and I was sharing with her about it. She laughed so hard she could barely relate it to me. She'd had the children at some restaurant out to eat a meal. Mia kept acting up despite her mom's warnings to settle down. Finally in desperation Lydia looked up and saw a managers photo on the wall. She told Mia "You'd better act right or boss gonna whup you. " Mia saw this woman in the restaurant who worked there. She had no teeth and was weird and scary looking. In her mind that was Boss. So she immediately stopped misbehaving and flew right from then on. I need to write this down in her baby book somewhere. It is so funny. We parents use whatever is effective!
