Today is Maundy Thursday-- The observation of the Last Supper and the origin of our Christian tradition of communion. Making confession of sins and absolution before taking the bread and the cup that represent the body and blood of Christ as a pure and perfect one time sacrifice to cleanse us.
Tomorrow is Good Friday ... when the Savior was crucified. A sinless man who was fully God. Fully man. Innocent and laying down His life for all humanity that we might live forever with Him.
His life was not taken from Him, but He laid it down 100% voluntarily. John 18: 1-6 is the account of His betrayal by Judas Iscariot and arrest by a group of Roman soldiers. The power of His name... God's name "I AM" caused the entire group of soldiers to be flattened prostrate before Him. He let them know they would not have the power to do anything to Him if he did not allow it.
John 18King James Version18 When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.
2 And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples.
3 Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.
4 Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?
5 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.
6 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.
Jesus died on Friday and was laid in the tomb before sundown.
The three days he was in the grave His soul was in Hell preaching to those who died before He came.
He broke the power of death, sin, and Hell. It is called the Harrowing of Hell. It is mentioned in the Apostles Creed which I love.
Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
The Third day... Easter Sunday dawned and the tomb was empty and He was resurrected. He ascended to the Father with the souls He recovered.
He lives within each of us who believes.
If you haven't believed upon His name do it today.
He is the perfect Lamb of God.
