Hemlock Falls Directions
Camps Gulf Addition to Fall Creek Falls State Park

Total
Hike Distance 5.4 miles round trip moderate
Hike
Directions: The hike begins just past the gate. Please do not park blocking
the
gate. Go a short distance and you will come to the first creek ford.
It can be a wet foot
creek
crossing. The trail passes some ruins of an old home site on the
left which is hard to spot in Summer.
The trail generally
continues up Camps Gulf heading in on a relatively straight course.
It is signed in a few places. You will come to the first
intersection and see
a sign indicating the Prater Place Trail. Stay with the main trail
here which now turns and
goes
upward and left. It will soon make a switchback and head ever deeper
into Camps Gulf
following
it back but now up along the shoulder of the gulf. Remember not to
be too
discouraged
at what you see along the way. Camps Gulf is riddled with caves and
the stream
goes
subterranean at times. Hemlock Falls is way at the back and has water flow
even
in the hot part of Summer.
While it does flow year round water
levels will decrease during drier times.
Retrace your steps
returning the way you came.
Take along plenty of drinking water in case there is none in the streams until you reach the back of the gulf.
