Hollow Rock Directions

 Hollow Rock Directions

Directions to reach Hollow Rock arch on the Kentucky side of Big South Fork.

We made our second ever visit to Hollow Rock and had a little trouble finding it.  In my mind it was along the main road.  That is not the case so I'll write up directions in case we forget.

At the state line Hwy 154 (Tennessee) becomes Hwy 167 (Kentucky) if you are heading north.
Once across the state line into Kentucky heading north you'll go less than 0.20 miles to a RIGHT turn onto Parker's Mountain Road (#564).   Drive 7 miles on Parker's Mountain Road and turn LEFT onto  Hollow Rock Road which is unsigned, but it is the second left turn off the main road.

Drive less than 0.20 miles to Hollow Rock on this gravel road.  It is narrow and there is little place to pull off.  You can look to your left and see the Hollow Rock up on the ridgeline above you. Sand spills down into the road here.   Walk up to have a look a the arch, but please don't deface it anymore?  It is not smart to build fires under arches.  You can see it has been done many times before.     The arch is blackened with soot and spray painted with graffiti.

It is still a nice arch if you are in the area and worth a look.

The road dead ends at 2 miles.   There is little room to turn around here, but there is a pull off on the left half mile further past Hollow Rock.   It has plenty room for a turn.

Here is the Tennessee Landforms info page for Hollow Rock

Below are two photos of Hollow Rock to give you an idea.  I have included a video as well since it illustrates the place better. It is quite impressive.

Video of Hollow Rock . It is  a video of me losing it and laughing like a jackass.  It is funny!

There are several nice overlooks to both the north and south along Parker's Mountain Road that are worth a look on your way to Hollow Rock.
Below is a photo of my favorite one. This one faces south.
