Little Fall Branch Falls Directions --Max Patch/Harmon Den NC

Many people know about and visit Max Patch for the meadow and the A.T. and the 180 degree views.

Far fewer know there is much beauty in the Pisgah National Forest at the base of the mountain where it is called Harmon Den.   Tucked away in an inconspicuous cove at the base of the mountain just past the horse camp is Little Fall Branch Falls.   I  have lost count of how many visits I've made to this waterfall.

It is surprisingly beautiful and flows year round.  I thought I had directions to it on my blog, but a friend's recent comments made me check. I found out I did not have them after all.  I am adding them to remedy this, and to see that visitors to the area don't get short changed on their experience.

Below is a video of it from early Spring.

Little Fall Branch Falls has an excellent display of Spring wildflowers along it.

Driving Directions:

Take I-40 and get off at the Harmon Den Exit 7
Turn onto  Cold Springs Creek Road and follow it  3.70 miles to a T intersection
Turn RIGHT to visit the falls.  You will pass a picnic area on your left almost immediately after making your right turn.  Drive 0.30 miles on Fall Branch Road to its dead end at a gate.
You will also have passed the Harmon Den Horse Campground on the left just before the end of the road.

Waypoint for the falls 35.75500,-82.97670

Hiking Directions:

Park before the gate at the end of the road. The trail begins by walking past the gate and look to your LEFT where Little Fall Branch is flowing down to meet the road.  The trail is visible a few feet past the gate on the left.   Follow the trail 0.25 miles to the waterfall
The trail is in good condition and never gets far from the stream.  It has very little elevation change over the entire hike.   It is rated easy and is an excellent hike for kids.
