Motch Falls is a far flung waterfall up near the TN/KY line. It can be reached by car and is okay to visit.

More popular with four wheeling crowd coming in from Tackett Creek than with hikers or regular folks driving round. It sits near the site of an old house that burned and is now a heap of rubble.

It also was the site of a coal mining community long ago.

Below is a photo of the trail taking off from Motch Falls heading out toward Fork Ridge. It leads to gas wells.

From Middlesboro KY

From the intersection of Hwy 74 and South 40th St in town turn south or right off Hwy 74 onto S. 40th St.

and drive 0.25 miles to another RIGHT turn onto SR 186 and drive south on it for 2.60 miles to the KY/TN state line.  Here the road changes from SR 186 to SR 132 in Tennessee.  Drive south on SR 132 for another 1.50 miles to Motch Falls on the left hand side of the road.

Below is a photo of Motch Falls. It is 50 ft high.

From the Tennessee Side--

There is no reliable, reasonable way to reach this falls from the Tennessee side via Clairfield or Powell Valley by passenger car.

By far the simplest thing to do would be to head north through Harrogate and approach down through Middlesboro as directed above. That will add another 5 miles one way to your drive, but you will for sure get there.  The reason it is visited by the four wheeling community from the Tennessee side soon becomes apparent if you study the map for a few minutes.

It is one of those "Ye cain't git there from hyere" type places.

Below is a video of Motch Falls from my YouTube channel.

It better shows it off.

It is worth mentioning that a very short distance from these falls to the west are two additional wet weather falls. They are out a trail about 0.20 miles north along it dropping onto the trail from the right (east)
