Overlook Nature Trail Directions

 Overlook Nature Trail Directions

Fairfield Glade Trail System

Driving Directions:

**Important** Avoid following Google Maps directions if it tries to bring you in from Exit 329 Crab Orchard for the next several months.  A major section of Hwy 70 is closed in Crab Orchard and inaccessible. You cannot reach Chestnut Hill Road from there.  I have reported the closure to Google Maps, but I'm not sure if they believed me.

From Interstate 40 West in Crossville Get off at the Peavine Road Exit
Turn left and go over to Chestnut Hill Winery.
Chestnut Hill Road goes behind the winery and parallels the interstate heading east for a distance then crosses over I 40 and continues northeast out into the countryside. It is about 4.5 miles out Chestnut Hill road to a LEFT onto Westchester Road. Drive 1.6 miles on Westchester to a RIGHT turn onto Windsor Rd then drive 0.40 miles on Windsor to a RIGHT turn onto Wimberly Road
Once on Wimberly Road drive 300 feet to a LEFT turn onto Arrowrock Road. Follow Arrow Rock Road to its end at 0.30 miles. The parking area here is above the Overlook.

There are no restrooms here, but there is a trash can.
There is plenty of parking.

There is also a good information kiosk with a map located before you ever start the hike.
It is right there at the overlook and you cannot miss it.

Take a moment to snap a cell phone photo of the map and study it to get oriented.

Hiking Directions:

Though you can walk down to the overlook on steps the trail is not located here.
The trailhead you see to your left is well marked. All hikes begin and end here.

The trail system is well marked.  White blazes for the north loop of 1.7 miles round trip.
I learned the south loop is also white blazed.
The south loop is 2.3 miles round trip.  The photo shown on google maps is dated and does not include both loops.  I also learned that in order to do the 2.3 mile loop you start down and must hike all the way south, down to Daddy's Creek level, follow it north or downstream, then bypass the main intersection at creek level.  Continue north and begin to close your loop by follow the trail up the bluff again on a series of switch backs.

If you want to do a shorter hike begin the south loop and at the intersection come back up the middle and it ends up being an easy 0.60 miles, but you miss a lot of pretty scenery.

both go down from up on the bluff , follow Daddy's Creek upstream or downstream and loop back upon themselves bringing you to your starting point once more.
Double blazes are to indicate trail junctions where a change of direction is taking place such as a turn to go uphill, the trail is jumping up from river bank to the shoulder of the river, etc.

They have wisely tried to build the trail avoiding high water areas to prevent floods washing it out.

This is part of Fairfield Glade community trails and is  strictly Use at your own risk !
Please be a good steward of the trail system and don't litter or vandalize.  Fairfield Glade has graciously allowed the public access to this trail system which is quite a gift.  Don't ruin it for us all!
